Safenet USB Key Drivers

August 2008

Artwork has added support for Safenet's (formerly Rainbow Technology) USB style hardware key. Over a period of time starting in January 2007 we will recompile our Windows based programs to support this key in lieu of the older parallel port keys.

FAQ

Q. Why change to USB Keys?

A. Two Reasons: (1) Rainbow (Safenet) is discontinuing manufacture of the Sentinel-C parallel key that we have been using for 15 years. We won't be able to get any more in 2007. (2) Many computers, especially laptops, no longer ship with a parallel port.

Q. I already have a parallel key. Will it continue to work?

A. Yes, our Windows programs (including new revisions) will continue to support the parallel hardware key.

Q.Can I trade my parallel key for a new USB key?

A.Yes, you can for $150 and the old key. You will also need to install a version of your software that supports the USB key and you will need to install the latest USB key driver. This means your support must be current. If not, you'll have to pay up your support.

Q.Can I use two USB keys at the same time?

A.Yes and No. If the two keys are from different software vendors then the answer is yes. You cannot use two USB keys from Artwork simultaneously because they will both respond to the same inquiry and the response will be garbled.

Q.Can a single USB key be used to license multiple products?

A.Yes. No problem. Just like the parallel key can. We can add products to an existing USB key. So if you purchase ASM 3500 on a USB key and then later purchase Qckvu, as long as we know your key's serial number we can create a license string for that key.

Q.Will the installation change?

A.Yes, slightly. When you go to install you will now have the option of selecting a USB key in the license menu. If you do, the install program will check for the correct key driver. If not found you will be told to click on a link to the driver, which you must download and install; then continue with the install. We are not bundling the driver with the program installation package because it would add 5 MB to each download.

Q.When will my Windows program be available with USB key?

A.Depends. We have to recompile a program to add the new USB key libraries. We will do this "on demand." Once done, all future versions of that program will support the USB key. Eventually all of our Windows programs will be updated but initially it will be on a case by case basis.
