Patching OpenWindows on SunOS to support Motif

Symptom

When running Artwork's programs that use Motif such as XGSDPLOT, you have serious mouse and display problems. Occurs on SunOS operating system.

Reason

Problems in Sun's OpenWindows must be patched for MOTIF programs to work correctly. Solaris 2.4 and later do not exhibit Motif related problems of this nature.

Solution

SunOS 4.13 and Earlier - you need to install an OS patch that we have on hand. You will not have any obvious clues if the patch has been installed. The pertinent patch ID#'s are 100444-54 and 100452-56. If you wish, retrieve all the files from ACS South's anonymous ftp site:

ftp.acssouth.com (205.147.11.18) - pub/get_from_here/sunos/OWpatch

Files to collect are:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 8656 Oct 30 10:24 100444-54.README
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 1429091 Oct 30 10:25 100444-54.tar.Z
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 10814 Oct 30 10:25 100452-56.README
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 1686911 Oct 30 10:25 100452-56.tar.Z
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 522 Oct 30 10:25 README
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 7621 Oct 30 10:25 patchOW

SunOS 4.14 - you need to install OpenWindows Jumbo Patch (ow3_414) as documented in the release notes for SunOS 4.14 (the cover of this document reads Release Notes for Solaris 1.1.2). The patch resides on the SunOS distribution CD.

Under SunOS 4.14 you will know that the Jumbo Patch has been installed because at startup the OpenWindows emblem reads "Version 3_414".
