Artwork Colocates WEB/FTP Server for Improved Response

January 25, 2006

Artwork has moved our WEB/FTP server from our offices in Santa Cruz into our ISP's server room which should greatly improve our ability to serve up WEB pages and software to our customers.

Prior to this move, the servers were located in our office which was connected to the internet via a high speed wireless radio. While the wireless link's theoretical throughput was 2Mb/sec, we began experiencing random file transfer problems approximately 6 months ago. We investigated these problems to insure they were not related to our server or internal network.

It appears that proliferation of WIFI signals in our area causes sufficient interference to our link that transmission of large files was routinely disrupted.

By moving our servers into got.net's facility we are now connected to the internet through their high capacity DS-3 (45 Mb/sec) land line.

The additional bandwidth will also allow us to post video tutorials which were previously bandwidth limited.
